IN-HOSPITAL CARE

Mayfair Diagnostics radiologists perform thousands of exams in three acute care and trauma hospitals in Calgary (Rockyview General, Peter Lougheed Centre, and the South Health Campus) and most of the AHS-owned ambulatory care centres in the Calgary area, including the South Calgary Health Centre and Sheldon M. Chumir Health Centre.

We also provide 24/7 on-call, high-quality reporting and interpretation for emergency and in-patient exams for Alberta Health Services and health regions, hospitals, and clinics throughout rural Alberta

Mayfair physicians also perform minimally invasive, intervention treatments in Calgary hospitals. These procedures use medical imaging to insert small catheter tubes and wires, or small needles, to precisely target areas of concern, such as shrinking small blood vessels that feed an enlarged prostate or uterine fibroids.

Called interventional radiology (IR), these procedures are sometimes called a pinhole procedure and can be an alternative to open and laparoscopic surgery. They can reduce risks of complications, provide shorter hospital stays, and enable quicker convalescence and return to work, compared to open surgery.

In-hospital IR procedures are performed after a consultation with Mayfair’s IR radiologists. After a physician or specialist sends us a consultation request, we work closely with specialists, referring physicians, and patients to determine what procedure is best suited to each patient’s medical history. Our procedures include treatments for an enlarged prostateuterine fibroids, and vascular conditions.
