New developments at Mayfair Diagnostics Market Mall

As one of our most long-established clinics, Mayfair Diagnostics Market Mall started serving patients in 1979 under the name Radiology Consultants Associated (RCA). Since then it’s seen many changes including a very recent upgrade of our mammography technology, and throughout our employees’ dedication to excellent patient care has never changed.

“In a typical day, we are pretty busy seeing over 300 patients per day. We see a variety of patients, and our team does a great job of supporting each other to provide the best patient care possible,” says Foziya Carne, Clinic Manager.

Located in the Market Mall Professional Building in the northwest corner of the Market Mall parking lot, our third-floor clinic provides bone mineral densitometry, breast imaging, image-guided pain therapy, nuclear medicine imaging, ultrasound, and X-ray services to patients from the surrounding northwest Calgary neighbourhoods of Brentwood, Bowness, Silver Springs, and Tuscany.

In addition, Market Mall’s extended hours attract patients from across the city. We are conveniently open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. After 4 p.m. on weekdays we offer X-ray, ultrasound, mammography, and bone density services. On the weekend we offer X-ray only from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Mayfair Diagnostics Market Mall features the latest technology and underwent significant renovations throughout much of 2017 to improve the patient experience, unifying and enlarging the reception area, upgrading our nuclear medicine technology, and introducing new image-guide pain therapy and automated breast ultrasound (ABUS) services. Image-guided pain therapy uses ultrasound and X-ray guidance to best localize and treat chronic pain, arthritis, and soft tissue injuries, while ABUS is a fast, efficient, new ultrasound imaging technology for 3D imaging of the whole breast.

As of February 2019, Market Mall also became the fourth location in Calgary to feature the GE Senographe Pristina Dueta mammography system, which Mayfair Diagnostics was the first to bring to Western Canada. With Pristina, patients not only get to experience a more comfortable exam, but also have the option to control part of it. When they go for a mammogram, the technologist will still properly position the breast and set the initial compression. But with Pristina the patient is offered the option to use a handheld wireless remote control – called patient-assisted compression – to adjust the level of compression to what’s comfortable for her, under the guidance of a technologist.

Patients who experienced Pristina at Mayfair’s Southcentre Mahogany, Mayfair Place, and Southcentre locations in 2018 had many positive things to say and reported feeling less anxious and more comfortable during their exam.

“We are very excited to offer our patients a more comfortable mammogram. We’ve seen so many comments from patients who’ve had previous mammograms saying they much prefer this one. They find it more comfortable and less intimidating,” says Carne.

This is important because the more relaxed the patient, the easier it is to position and compress the breast, resulting in less radiation from the X-rays and a clearer image. A positive experience also makes patients more likely to return for regular screening, which is the most effective way to catch breast cancer early.

“Our team is great at adapting to new environments and workflows. They are passionate about taking care of our patients and learning new skills and new technology, so we were excited to introduce the new mammography technology,” says Justine Soriano, Assistant Clinic Manager.
